Too many ads, I know you like to make money but it wouldn’t hurt to cut down a little bit or even add a 3rd column to spread things out a bit.

I know you’ve commented a few times as CyberSurge, so I know you’ve been reading for awhile. I actually had a three column theme but made the switch to two columns a few months ago and moved a lot of the extra stuff to the top menu (archives, subscribe buttons, etc.) I actually feel like I don’t have much in the sidebar, but you aren’t the first one to say something about that so I will be reconsidering! After trying both, I much prefer the two column theme and will likely be staying with it however. Note: Most successful A-list bloggers use 2 column themes. While that is not the reason I use 2 columns, I think its important to note that it can be successful.

Another note on the ads, please get rid of Kontera. I personally don’t think that anyone should use kontera, it is just too obtrusive.

Great point! I actually intend to remove them once I reach the next payout, which should hopefully be in the next month. In the meantime, I’ve highlighted a Greasemonkey script that removes all inline text ads from showing up. Greasmonkey is compatible now with Opera and I beleive IE as well, so this should work no matter which browser you use.

If you’ve been following my blog over the past year, you’ll know that its been a wonderful learning experience for me. Part of this is trial and error, and I would put the Kontera ads in this category. I’m also working on different things with AuctionAds, so those will probably be removed soon if unsuccessful (and they are only on the homepage, not individual pages. Over 90% of my traffic goes straight to individual pages). If we don’t experiment, how will we know what is optimal? I often try to share the results in a follow up post whenever possible.

Why do you need a completely seperate page for your blogroll? oh, yea, its because you have so many things in your sidebar (TOO MANY).

Actually, the blogroll page existed back when I was using a 3-column theme. The reason for moving them to a separate page is for SEO purposes. Having your blogroll on your main page is a huge no-no with search engines. Having the link on a Page instead of showing on every page (in the sidebar) keeps a lot of the linkjuice on your site, instead of sending it elsewhere. You’ll notice most links that leave my site in the sidebar are paid for in some form for this reason, or are affiliate links of some sort.

Anyway, just wanted to throw that stuff out there. If anyone has anything else to add/suggest, feel free to below.
