Two Themes I Hate and One I Love

Remember we may have differing opinions, and that is fine, leave a comment and tell me why I’m wrong.

Loopy Red (Live Demo)

Loopy Red

Quite frankly I really don’t like this theme. It has the effect that the title implies but that effect isn’t that great. It is too red, I wouldn’t be too opposed if it had a little red, I’m not against red, but this just screams REEEDDD!! If you like that, it is fine, but it is not for me.

Pigments (Live Demo)

Pigment

This is another that I do not like, it is just too stripe-ey. I do like that it is nice and wide, there is nothing better then a blog theme that fills your whole browser window. But, unfortunately the color scheme for the theme is just too strong.

T1 (Live Demo)

T1

This is actually a really nice theme. It is loosely based on Tumblogs and I have to be honest, I am a sucker for a moderately well designed minimalist WordPress theme. This single column theme is just beautiful simplicity. I absolutely love the background on the left and right sides of the main column, it looks great.

Gravatar Acquired by Automattic

Gravatar LogoGravatar (Globally Recognized Avatar) is an extremely popular service which allows its users to have an avatar to use on my websites (mostly just a picture next to your comment on blogs). Gravatar was hit by some scaling issues and had to shut down for a short time a while back, but Automattic, the creators of WordPress have decided to take over Gravatar.

Automattic has already shown their skill at scaling with WordPress and Akismet and have already started improving Gravatar. They have moved the Gravatar service to WordPress.com’s infrastructure and have sped up avatar serving by 3x.

I don’t currently use Gravatar but if Automattic improves it like I think they will I will have to reconsider it. I could actually see Gravatar integration into WordPress in the future, which would be pretty amazing (and extremely interesting at the same time).

Scrutiny Is Back

So I took a little bit off from writing on this blog but I’ve decided that the break must end. I have been busy writing on CyberSurge but to be honest with you I miss writing on this blog, it is fun and always interesting. When I first opened this blog I was lucky if I got any traffic at all throughout the day but now I get a decent amount of traffic day to day and I haven’t even posted in almost a week.

So, I have decided to get going again on this blog. I have some interesting posts planned for the next week or so. Some things will change here, namely the frequency of posting, before I took the break I was writing a post every week day, well, I have decided that with all of the work that I have been doing on my other blog I don’t have the time to write here everyday, so I’m not going to make any promises on when I will post and how often I will.

So expect some posts in the next week and I hope you all enjoy it.

Slow Times

Currently I have been tied up with my other blog, CyberSurge. I have been extremely busy, I wrote a post that has been getting a tremendous amount of traffic and alongside dealing with comments I also started trying to monetize the blog, writing up an Advertise page, and working on a redesign for CyberSurge.

Because of this I haven’t had a whole lot of time to write new content for this blog, I tried last week to do a short post a day but I feel bad about how boring the posts were. I finally decided that unless the post was going to live up to my standards I’m just plain not going to post it.

Week of WordPress Plugins Day 4 - Download Counter Lite

Download Counter Lite - “Keep track of the number of downloads from your site. That’s all it does and does it simply. Keep a list of the downloadable files, replace the URL with the one the plugin gives you and, hopefully, sit back and watch the numbers rise!”
