Week of WordPress Themes Day 5 - The Morning After

The Morning After (No Live Demo)

The Morning After

This is an absolutely gorgeous theme, I love the colors, I love the layout, I just love it.

“The Morning After is a magazine-style theme for WordPress created by Arun Kale. The theme was created based on a brief survey on the WordPress forums about what people would want to see in a unique magazine-style theme.”

That is an interesting idea, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a theme created based on a survey. Here are some of the features the theme has:

I really do like this theme and I think that this is a great option for anyone who is looking for a new theme or looking for their first theme, especially since it can be used very as a beginner theme with plenty of bells and whistles that will let you grow without needing to add anything to the theme yourself.

Week of WordPress Themes Day 4 - Silvery Snow

Silvery Snow (Live Demo)

Silvery Snow

This is a theme with a really clean layout and a simple color scheme (however I don’t really now why the sidebar headers are done in a purplish color).

I don’t understand why there is so much wasted space in the header of the theme though, why does there have to be a header image with navigation located above it and all the way at the top there is a spot for your title, I feel as though the best place for the title would be either IN the header image or hovering above it so that it appears as though it is in the image. A better place for the navigation would be underneath the header image, placing it where it is just seems strange to me.

I do like that this theme isn’t trying to shove a lot of stuff in the footer as many themes are doing now, a lot of theme creators are trying to put things in the footer that traditionally would go in one of the sidebars, I think that it can be a good option but some of these footers can get massive.

Overall I do like this theme although there are a few things that I would change if I built it myself (which I can’t because I am not very good with CSS, but am planning on learning and planning on building my first WordPress theme in the coming months, no promises though).

Week of WordPress Themes Day 3 - Blue Stripes

Blue Stripes (Live Demo)

Blue Stripes

Here is a great little theme that is waaayy too blue and waaayy to glossy. If you enjoy that, that is fine but it is not my taste at all.

I like that it is 3-columns giving you a lot of room for all your interesting widgets.  Ummmm… I just don’t know what else to say, it is just sooo blue! If you like blue, you’ll love this theme!

Week of WordPress Themes Day 2 - CUBEZ

CUBEZ (Live Demo)

CUBEZ

This is a really great theme, 2-columns isn’t usually a good thing but because the columns are so wide it really gives the theme a lot of room. One great feature is links in the sidebar under the header “Main Translator” which contain links to translate the current page you are on using Google’s translator.

I absolutely love the header and footer on this theme, I love the color in both of them, along with the fact that there is plenty of room to put your own custom image header in.

The colors in this theme are just great, I think everything goes together very nicely.

I would highly suggest you go and check this theme out, it is one of the best I’ve ever reviewed.

Week of WordPress Themes Day 1 - Blue Chillout Space

I’m starting a series here on Blog Scrutiny, it is the Week of WordPress Themes, this is day one and I will be continueing it all week long. I am currently planning on doing more of these so I hope you enjoy them, if not let me know in the comments and I’ll do more to mix it up.

Blue Chillout Space (Live Demo)

Blue Chillout Space

Can someone say “shiny?” I can! SHINY. I can’t be too hard on this theme, it is only a 0.2.1 release so it is obviously beta, or alpha or something, even if it doesn’t say so, I can just tell. The theme has a very “nice” blue, light blue, white, and black color scheme.

the theme could be a great theme, when it hits a 1.0 release it should look stunning, but for now, download it, tweak it (change a few colors, fonts, etc.) and use it. I love that you can remove the links at the bottom of the theme. I know that all of you theme makers want to get credit for your work but come on, either throw nofollow on the links or… something.

Something I want to mention to all of the theme makers out there, clearly state what you can and cannot do with this theme, I love that Iliyan Darganov came right out and told you what the license was and whether or not you could remove the links from the footer of the theme.

I like the structure of the theme, it actually looks really good, the only thing I can say bad about it really, is the colors, blue is getting a little tired and thankfully that is just a Photoshop edit away or a quick stylesheet fix.
